Real estate is a commission-based business, and as a REALTOR, you're an independent contractor, which means your income potential is directly tied to your work ethic and strategy—not a fixed salary determined by a boss. Many real estate agents start part-time and transition into full-time careers as their real estate business grows.

Low Barrier to Entry

No college degree or experience required. Most people complete pre-licensing in just a few weeks and take the real estate exam after to become licensed. From there, you join a real estate brokerage, start training and you're off to building a success career in real estate.

๐ง How To Become a Real Estate Agent?
To become a licensed real estate agent, here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Complete a State-Approved Pre-Licensing Course
The number of pre-licensing education hours depends on your state (usually between 60–120 hours of pre-licensing coursework). You can complete this online at your own pace or through a local real estate school.

Step 2: Study for the Real Estate Exam
After you're done the pre-licensing course(s), you’ll need to study for the real estate exam. The number of questions and the score required to pass will depend on your state real estate commission's requirements. Nonetheless, the real estate exam is known to be difficult- but NOT impossible.

Step 3: Take the Real Estate Exam
Once you've spent time studying and feel prepared to pass, you’ll schedule the real estate licensing exam. You'll need to pass both national and state-specific sections of the exam in order to recieve your real estate license.
Step 4: You PASSED the Real Estate Exam!
CONGRATS! You passed the real estate exam and have completed the necessary applications for your state real estate commission. This is a big achievement and you should absolutely celebrate this moment!

Step 5: Interview with Real Estate Brokerages
Once you pass your real estate exam, you’ll choose a real estate company to “hang your license” with. This is where you’ll launch your real estate career with tools, mentorship from experienced agents, and support from your co-workers and managing broker.

Step 6: Start Selling Real Estate!
Once you're license is with your realty office and you've completed your onboarding, you're ready to start your real estate career! When building your real estate business, you need to focus on building strong relationships with people in your community, effectively marketing yourself to everyone, and learning the ropes of successfully selling real estate. With the right guidance, you can close your first real estate deal in just a few months.
